A copy of the RFP is now posted on the Higher Education Programs Web site under the heading of "Higher Education Challenge Grants Program." The Web site contains the RFP and all necessary forms and information for submitting a proposal. We strongly advise using the Internet to obtain solicitation materials as the number of printed copies is limited.
Proposals may be submitted by land-grant and other U.S. colleges and universities offering a baccalaureate degree or any higher degree, and having a demonstrable capacity for, and a significant ongoing commitment to, the teaching of food and agricultural sciences. Appropriations for the program in FY 2001 are $4.35 million. Awards will be made up to a maximum of $100,000 for a regular project or $250,000 for a joint project (the applicant plus two or more institutions).
The program is designed to promote and strengthen teaching programs in the food and agricultural sciences area to produce baccalaureate or higher degree level graduates capable of strengthening the Nation's food and agricultural scientific and professional workforce. Proposals should address one or more of the following targeted need areas (1) curricula design and instructional materials development; (2) faculty development and preparation for teaching; (3) instruction delivery systems; or (4) student experiential learning.
