Funding Opportunities for the Western IPM Center

FQPA and Worker Protection Standard Research Grants Available: Deadline March 4, 2005

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 9 is pleased to announce three opportunities to assist growers in meeting requirements under the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA) and the Worker Protection Standard (WPS). Link to the Microsoft Word documents below.
  1. 2005 FQPA Large Grant Program — one large grant of up to $200,000 intended for a sustainable agriculture program that addresses a diverse array of commodities and have a proven track record of grower participation and adoption of sustainable pest management practices.
  2. 2005 FQPA Small Grants Program — small grants up to $60,000 intended to help implement the FQPA and support transition efforts by growers to more environmentally sound pest management practices. These grants provide support to projects for education, extension, demonstration, and implementation of integrated pest management practices and related methods of sustainable agriculture to motivate on-the-ground transition away from pesticides targeted by FQPA.
  3. The 2005 Worker Protection Standard Stewardship Program — small grants between $30,000 and $50,000 intended to help strengthen compliance with the WPS and minimize worker exposure to pesticides. The grant program will provide funding for projects which are unique and innovative, and that address the requirements of the Federal WPS and related methods of protecting agricultural workers from pesticide exposure within a specific commodity, group of commodities or geographic area. These grants may be used for education, training, monitoring, demonstrations or studies that promote stewardship of pesticide safety. Catalog of Domestic Federal Assistance (Number 66.716)

All proposals are due close of business March 4, 2005.
