Funding Opportunities for the Western IPM Center
FQPA and Worker Protection Standard Research Grants Available: Deadline
March 4, 2005
The U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency Region 9 is pleased to announce three
opportunities to assist growers in meeting requirements under the Food Quality
Protection Act (FQPA) and the Worker Protection Standard (WPS). Link to

- 2005 FQPA Large Grant Program
one large grant of up to $200,000 intended for a sustainable agriculture
program that addresses a diverse array of commodities and have a proven
track record of grower participation and adoption of sustainable pest
management practices.
- 2005 FQPA Small Grants Program
small grants up to $60,000 intended to help implement the FQPA
and support transition efforts by growers to more environmentally sound
pest management practices. These grants provide support to projects
for education, extension, demonstration, and implementation of integrated
pest management practices and related methods of sustainable agriculture
to motivate on-the-ground transition away from pesticides targeted by
FQPA.
- The 2005 Worker Protection Standard Stewardship
Program small grants between $30,000 and $50,000 intended
to help strengthen compliance with the WPS and minimize worker exposure
to pesticides. The grant program will provide funding for projects which
are unique and innovative, and that address the requirements of the
Federal WPS and related methods of protecting agricultural workers from
pesticide exposure within a specific commodity, group of commodities
or geographic area. These grants may be used for education, training,
monitoring, demonstrations or studies that promote stewardship of pesticide
