Funding Opportunities for the Western IPM Center

EPA Region 10/American Farmland Trust Request for Proposals: Deadline: February 1, 2005

Date: December 3, 2004

From: Sandy Halstead
EPA Region 10

To: WIPMC, ag industry, extension, and research contacts

Hi all,

I am requesting help in advertising our request for proposals for 'FQPA transition/IPM' projects in EPA Region 10 (AK, WA, OR, and ID). I am especially interested in getting the announcement better advertised in Idaho, Alaska, and Oregon. The majority of our project submissions in the past have been from Washington state.

In short, project eligibility is wide open (including for-profit organizations) for these Integrated Pest Management implementation projects. Projects may request funding up to $70,000. Proposals are due to American Farmland Trust on February 1, 2005. Please refer to the Request for Proposals for project criteria and proposal submission details.

SUMMARY
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 10 is continuing a small-grant program in Fiscal Year 2005 to help implement the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA) and support “transition” efforts by growers. The program supports innovative efforts that enable growers to reduce their reliance on pesticides targeted for removal under FQPA while maintaining or enhancing their present income. The program is administered by American Farmland Trust’s Center for Agriculture in the Environment through a cooperative agreement with EPA. We are looking for projects that focus on results or actual on-the-ground changes, rather than activities. Each award will be up to $70,000.

A total of $211,000 is available for funding this year. Proposals are due February 1, 2005. Decisions will be made by February 28, 2005. The award will be available March 2005 and funding can be used for up to two years after the award date.
