Exotic Pests and Diseases Research Program: Request for Proposals

The University of California Center for Invasive Species Research and the Statewide IPM Project are soliciting new proposals for developing and promoting basic and applied research and extension programs related to exotic pests and diseases found in agricultural, urban or natural environments in California.

Goals. In the evaluation process and relative ranking of research proposals for funding, reviewers will consider the importance of the research to California and priority areas that have been identified by the CISR Advisory Committee. Multidisciplinary and multi-institutional proposals are encouraged as appropriate to address specific issues, and to allow the results of sponsored research projects to have broader utility. An extension or outreach program to disseminate information resulting from the research is highly recommended.

Proposals will be reviewed by review panels in three areas:

Who May Apply. The Exotic Pests and Diseases Program will solicit proposals from scientists affiliated with public research institutions, both within California and external to California. Funding is not restricted to University of California investigators, although projects are strongly encouraged to include at least one UC Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources academic employee as an investigator, to ensure relevance to exotic pests and diseases/invasive species of particular importance to California, and linkage to the Agricultural Experiment Station and Cooperative Extension systems. If any PI or cooperator is a member of an Area Review Panel, the proposal must be sent to a different panel for review.
