University of California Biotechnology Programs: Conference and Outreach Awards Available
Funding opportunities for conferences and outreach activities are available within the University of California Systemwide Biotechnology Research and Education Program and the UC Biotechnology Strategic Targets for Alliances in Research (BioSTAR).
- Awards up to $15,000
- No deadlines, but application must be received at least 3 months prior to the date of proposed activity.
Purpose
Small seed grants of up to $15,000 to support activities that:
- communicate developments
in biotechnology research at UC and in California firms
- enhance faculty, student,
and staff understanding of commercial biotechnology research, technology
transfer, and opportunities for cooperative research with private sponsors
- assess and improve university approaches to technology transfer and administration of industry-sponsored research.
UC
Systemwide Biotechnology Research and Education Program
Background
The University of California Biotechnology Program has had annual
support of approximately $1,500,000 in state funds since 1985. It has
three major purposes:
- to foster and provide support of meritorious research in biotechnology and on issues related to biotechnology
- to promote training at the postdoctoral and graduate levels
- to inform those in government, industry, and the public about biotechnology developments and the implications of these developments in the public arena.
Goal
A goal of the UC Biotechnology Program is to foster communication
on biotechnology developments, challenges, and opportunities—both
within the academic community and with government, industry and the public.
Opportunity Awards provide small seed grants (up to $15,000) to support
such information exchange. Proposals may be submitted at any time.
Topics
Topics related to biotechnology are appropriate and include—but are
not limited—to the fields of science, engineering, economics, social
sciences, humanities, business, public policy, and education (i.e., K-12,
community college, and targeted public outreach).
