BioSTAR Announces $20 Million Available for Biotech Research
The University of California Biotechnology Strategic Targets for Alliances in Research Project (BioSTAR) is soliciting proposals for basic to proof-of-concept research in the field of biotechnology. The call for proposals (PDF 98K) contains more information.
BioSTAR funds a broad spectrum of biotechnology research projects that are jointly supported by industry partners and the University. Since 1996, more than $60 million in early stage, high-risk biotechnology research has been supported at the University of California through industry-university funded BioSTAR grants.
Applications are encouraged both for new projects and for competitive renewal of existing BioSTAR grants.

The BioSTAR Project uses an online submission system to streamline the proposal development and submission process. All information, including the notice of intent, request for proposals, and online help documents, is on the BioSTAR Web site. A Notice of Intent briefly describing the proposed project should be submitted through the BioSTAR Web site no later than Tuesday, April 23, 2002. Proposals, with binding letters from Private Sponsors, are due Thursday, May 2, 2002.
