EPA Region 9 Request for Proposals for FQPA Implementation; Deadline April 25, 2003

The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 9 is announcing a grant opportunity to help implement the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA) and support "transition" efforts by growers. The grant program supports innovative efforts that enable growers to reduce their reliance on pesticides targeted for removal under the FQPA.

This grant program is intended for projects aimed to reduce pesticide risks or use. This is administered by the Agriculture Initiative in EPA's Region 9, which covers California, Nevada, Arizona, Hawaii or in the Pacific Trust Islands. State agencies, universities, Cooperative Extension, Tribes, and nonprofit organizations (including not-for-profit commodity groups or farmers' groups) are eligible to submit proposals.

The proposals must be postmarked by April 25, 2003. Proposals will be reviewed and ranked by a panel of experts. Decisions on the grants will be made by May 21, 2003. Applicants will be notified within the following week. To finalize the grant procedure, award recipients will need to complete financial and administrative grant paperwork. EPA staff will be available for assistance.
