IN THIS UPDATE:
EPA Seeks Public Comment on Proposed Consent Decree Regarding Endangered Species: Deadline May 29EPA published a Federal Register Notice on April 30, 2002, seeking public comment on a proposed Consent Decree. The Consent Decree would resolve a lawsuit brought against the Agency by the Californians for Alternatives to Toxics (CATs), the environmental Protection Information Center, and the Humboldt Watershed Council. The Consent Decree would establish a series of deadlines for the Agency to begin consulting with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) on the potential effects of a number of pesticides to certain endangered or threatened plant and salmonid species located primarily in California. EPA will use the comments to determine whether all or part of the proposed Consent Decree warrants reconsideration. Comments are due to EPA by May 29, 2002. The Federal Register Notice is available on the Web. The Agency has posted a fact sheet with instructions on how to submit comments, along with a copy of the proposed Consent Decree on its Web site.
