EPA Pesticide Program Updates: March 28, 2002

Pesticide Program Update from EPA's Office of Pesticide Programs, March 28, 2002

IN THIS UPDATE:

  • Atrazine Technical Briefing Scheduled for April 16, 2002

Atrazine Technical Briefing Scheduled for April 16, 2002

EPA will hold a technical briefing to present the revised risk assessments for the pesticide atrazine. The technical briefing will be held on April 16, 2002, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), 4301 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA, near the Ballston Metro Station. NRECA telephone number: (703) 907-5933.

This meeting will provide an opportunity for interested stakeholders to learn about the data, information, and methodologies that the Agency used in revising its risk assessments for the herbicide atrazine. Stakeholders will have an opportunity to ask clarifying questions. Through publication of a Federal Register notice of availability, EPA will release the revised risk assessments for public viewing via the docket and Internet, and will open a 60-day public participation period during which the public may submit risk mitigation and risk management ideas and recommendations, as well as proposals for transition.

The technical briefing is part of the process that EPA and the U.S. Department of Agriculture are using to involve the public in pesticide reregistration and tolerance reassessment decisions under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act and the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, as amended by the Food Quality Protection Act. The Federal Register notice announcing the atrazine technical briefing is available on EPA's Web site. Additional information about atrazine is also available on the Web.
