California Coalition for Food and Farming Workshop on 'Collaborating on a Food and Farm Bill' June 28, 2005 in Sacramento
A workshop targeting California's current Farm Bill, its implications for California, and why the 2007 Farm Bill is critical to the future of California agriculture, will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, June 28, 2005 in the Clarion Hotel, Sacramento.
The workshop is geared for farmers, farming organizations, environmental advocates, community organizers, elected officials, and agency representatives and staff.
Speakers will include A.G. Kawamura, secretary for the California Department of Food and Agriculture, who will share his vision for how California agriculture can feed hungry people, steward the land and other natural resources, and remain economically viable locally, nationally and around the world.
The day-long program will focus on aspects of the Farm Bill that
- Support alternative agriculture research in our universities to benefit farmers and communities;
- Create opportunities for agriculture, communities, and government to improve nutrition and provide greater access to healthy food;
- Provide incentives to farmers and landowners for using environmentally friendly conservation practices;
- Offer solutions to the inequities in our current farm policy, to support adequate funding for essential alternative agriculture and conservation programs, to create improved access and user friendly programs, and to ensure strong programs that have greater benefit to California.
