Strawberry Farm Acreage -- California Response
Dear Phil,
I did not receive your earlier e-mail. Jane Thomas mentioned it to me a few days ago and I replied to her that I had not seen it.
Anyway, the median acreage of a strawberry farm in California is approximately 37 acres. Farms range in size from 0.25 acres to 635 acres. This information is taken from the California Department of Pesticide Regulation's 2002 Pesticide Use Report. I sorted over 50,000 applications of pesticides applied to strawberries to come up with these figures.

Hello everyone:
Today, I received a phone call from the Chemical Review Manager (CRM) for the pesticide Captan. In the previously issued RED for Captan, EPA used a figure of 350 acres for the average size for a strawberry field. This figure was used in the worker exposure estimates calculated by EPA for the Captan RED and several groups have said the figure is too high. EPA would like to know what is the typical size of a strawberry field? EPA said it doesn't need any documentation, but just a very educated guess from growers in your areas. They would like to have this information in about 10 to 12 days.
