Teung and Katrina,
I have learned that the People's Republic of China does not accept fresh produce from Hawaii. I was told this is because many of the commodities we are likely to export--such as papayas--are hosts for the Mediterranean and oriental fruit flies. (There are crops which were included in the MRL document cabbage and Chinese cabbage, for example--which I would not consider to be fruit fly hosts. However, Hawaii does not export any of these commodities to China, either, and it does appear that the prohibition applies to such commodities as well as obvious fruit fly hosts.)
So, at this time, pesticide residues are not a concern for any of Hawaii's growers who may consider exporting their produce to China.
If you have further questions, please contact me (cathy@hpirs.stjohn.hawaii.edu, 808-956-2004).
Aloha,
Cathy
